Heroes award spotlight on shortlisted individuals -.William Mahaffey of Network Plus
With just a month to go until this year's Highways Heroes awards we showcase some of the individuals who the judges have shortlisted for the prestigious awards at this year's event.
William is somebody who has battled back from true adversity in life himself a former drug addict and who has served a custodial sentence as a result, he has now turned his back upon addiction to become something of a beacon of hope to others as well as living his life by example.
In his own works William said,
"May 2017, 7 years ago was my last prison sentence. I remember the last time I saw my daughter before I went into court and she was smiling at me. She had no understanding she was not going to see me again for a long time. A lot of time by myself having belief I can be the man I am today is what gave me the faith to go for it when I landed back outside the gates for what I promised to be my last time. It’s not been an easy journey to get to where I am now as I had to learn for the first time in my life how to be a good man in everyday society. No easy task when you start this process at 30 years old, many ups and downs. But it’s been worth it, now with my family in my life I am becoming the man Louise always knew I was inside.
Never give up on working to better yourself and don’t seek belief or validation from others. Success is measured on an individual achievement of how far you have come, not what someone has. Be proud of who your are."
Speaking of William's shortlisting as a finalist Kevin Robinson, Managing Director of the Heroes Awards said,
"The picture above in this article speaks a thousand words and should be an example to us all that it is possible to break the cycle and truly become the person you one day hope you could.
"But not only that William has gone further becoming a crutch to others tirelessly lending support and tirelessly campaigning for those without a voice."
Taking place at the London Hilton, Park Lane on 28th November, the event will not only recognise those who have gone above and beyond their duty, but also those that have helped someone or improved a situation, either in the communities they work in or to unconditionally support fellow workers in their team, with Will a special guest at the event where the achievements of our unsung heroes will be recognised.
